Thank you for reading Gentle Computing. I have really enjoyed putting this together.
I now need to take a break to finish writing my PhD thesis.
But I don’t think I will return to Gentle Computing straight away after that.
There are other creative projects I want to try out, for example when I return I might do something like build a small piece of software every week.
I’m also considering starting a weekly or fortnightly blog on the usefulness of quantum computing, or on post-quantum information security.
I might also want to write about Singapore or Asia.
Doing Gentle Computing for two months has taught me how to think through writing. It’s awesome to scope down your writing to avoid all the perfectionism. I’d like to see if I can scale up each post by publishing once every 2 days (then 3, then a week, etc.), but still avoid perfectionism, and really feel that the work done over 2 days is at least 2x better than if it was done over one day.
It has also given me a new perspective on my role as a computer scientist. There are so many things to go and do in computer science for social good and I will explore them more.
Most of all, it’s taught me the importance of doing things that I find interesting and doing things for myself. As more people followed Gentle Computing, my purpose in writing became confused. Writing for others requires an extra effort to be respectful to other people’s time. I just wanted to write to think and explore ideas.
I look forward to not having to constantly churn out content. This took a lot of effort!
All the best. Goodbye!
